Without wishing to reveal the plot, we can say that this edition has been extensively revised and updated, while retaining its integral strength, the ability to differentiate between problems and solutions. Kreyszig's intrepid hero, the amazing Mr. Block, puts an end to proof after proof en route to a stunning conclusion. He is joined in his mission by a set of familiar characters, including 1, 2, 3, x, y, z, and many, many more, in a series of adventures guaranteed to make your vectors curl.
However, this book is not without its share of faults. The author's style is partially derivative and often convoluted, while his old preoccupation with social standing surfaces in the section on 'The Rank of a Matrix'. He also tends to moralise, with frequent references to well-behaved functions and equation family values.
In true Kreyszigian tradition, the rest of this review is left as an exercise for the reader.
