How did we get where we are?
Should we regret where we are?
With all of our eggs in a basket and no way to tell
If we've merely equipped it with handles, and sent it to hell
We're reviewing the situation
Should a planet hold the future of the race?
All the pressures of population
Don't you think that we'd be better off in space?
There's a universe to see out there
A lifetime falling free out there
A wide and starry sky out there
A chance to burn and fry out there
A radiation high out there
A million ways to die out there...
[Alt: The background count is high out there
It's never hard to die out there]
We think we'd better think it through again
Who needs the stars anyway?
They're much too far, anyway
There's a lot that we've got to look out for,
Right here on the ground
We just hope that a lifetime from now it will still
Be around
We're reviewing the situation
Can we really use resources at this rate?
Our descendants, for generations
We've a duty not to leave them to their fate
We should leave the oceans clean for them
And keep the forests green for them
And not deplete the soil we have
And save the coal and oil we have
We're sure we have the will for it
But who will pay the bill for it?
I think we'd better think it through again
Why shouldn't life be fun for us?
What has the future done for us?
All the sins of our fathers -
We've never been heard to complain
So I'm sure our children can live
With whatever remains
We're reviewing the situation
Should our weapons give us reason for alarm?
Endless stockpiles, in every nation
We should tear them down before we come to harm
We should put away our sabres now
And get on with our neighbours now
And talk to them, and trade with them
And treaties should be made with them
Embracing every jot of them
And - (spoken) what, you mean the *lot* of them?
I think we'd better think it through again
But why should we try anyway?
We're not gonna die anyway
All the prophets of doom,
All the ravens who croak in our ears
They have yet to provide a foundation
To prop up their fears
We're reviewing the situation
Is the future quite as gloomy as they say?
All the theory and speculation
I've a feeling that we're gonna be okay
There's no need for us to stop the bomb
'Cause no one's gonna drop the bomb
Resources will renew themselves
Our kids can have a few themselves
The earth has room to spare for us
There's nothing much out there for us
I think we needn't think of it again.
